This website is specifically dedicated to the greatest Shakespeare tragedy of them all – “Romeo and Juliet.” It has an abundance of information and is presented for students of varying reading abilities.
Content:
v This site includes a cast of characters, famous lines, recapped death scenes and themes for discussion, as well as, an irreverent side-by-side translation of the play.
v The translation is coupled with flippant commentary that most high school students will relate to and find amusing. They may read this just to see what the author will say next – as long as they are reading, right?!
v The themes for discussion are relevant to what may be posed in an actual classroom discussion or essay assignment – condensed.
v The death scenes are summed up in a one word line – that is all they really need, and surely all they will remember.
v The cast of characters is precise with little mockery.
Prosand Cons:
v The website contains some opinion and language that some may find uncouth. Students may enjoy this and actually read more and understand more of what they read because it is relatable.
v Because of the blunt language, beginning teachers may not wish to address the play in this manner. There is always a fine line, and teachers are apprehensive to cross it.
v This site is extremely easy to use, as everything is spelled out clearly on the opening page. Just point and click to what you want to read and you are there.
v This is a simplistic website and really should be paired with other resources. Some students may not take this seriously.
